Navua goalie Sheik Moshin could not stop Tavua’s Ame Votoniu’s 14th minute header that handed the miners their first win of the 2012 Vodafone Fiji FACT which is currently underway at Ba’s Govind Park.

The Southerners started the game well but lacked concentration.

Tavua had a chance to up their score via midfielder Lovneel Pratap, but Moshin was at hand to make a good save.

Navua president Gopal Naidu attributed the loss to the players’ failure to stick to their gameplan.

“Our passes were not accurate and strikers lacked the urgency and the fighting spirit in them which let us down in this crucial game.

“Fitness was another setback for us because we only got to train two days before we came down,” Naidu said.

His Tavua counterpart Emmanuel Manu saluted his young brigade for a job well done.

“They displayed great football and my advise to them was to create chances from set pieces and that made the difference in today’s win.”

Manu said they will have to work harder for the Ba game tomorrow.

Navua’s Ronal Rao made his debut for the side coming from the bench in the second spell.

Navua’s Monit Chand and Tavua’s Loveneel Pratap copped a yellow card each in the game.

The Southerners have a slim chance of making the top four with only a game left to go. They will play Nadroga at 5.45pm today.
