Students get national call-up

Three more players have been roped into the national squad preparing for the two friendly matches against the Play Brazil Tour this week.

In are Cuvu College’s Tomasi Tuicakau, Ba Sangam’s Narendra Rao Junior and Central College’s Rusiate

Matirerega following their impressive form at the 4-day secondary school’s IDC that ended yesterday at Ba’s Govind Park.

Rao Junior is the son of former Ba and national rep Vimal Sami while Matirerega is the son of former Nadi rep Watisoni Voli.

Fiji coaching director, Juan Carlos Buzzetti said the players were outstanding in their game over the 4-day tournament and that playing against the visitors from Brazil would boost their soccer know-how.

“They are very good upcoming players so we’ve decided to give them an opportunity like this,” Buzetti said.

“Playing in this sort of competition will enhance our upcoming players and their confidence level.”

Defending champions, Central College retained top honours by a one-way 3-0 victory over Cuvu College in the final

The national side plays the Brazilian side Thursday in their first game at 5.30pm at Churchill Park and they meet again on Saturday at 2.30pm at Govind Park.
