The first round of the 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament was filled with excitements and frustrations to districts coaches.

Ba coach Yogendra Dutt said there were a lot of areas that they needed to improve on before trying to win the 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants this week.

“We need to strengthen our midfield and our finishing. All teams have trained well for the tournament but for Ba, we prepare as a team and we will win as a team,” Dutt said.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu applauded Labasa supporters and the weather at Subrail Park yesterday.

“The weather was good and the attendance was good. I’m sure everybody in the North enjoyed the first round,” Rodu said.

Labasa coach Epeli Levaci believes there is still room for improvement in his team.

“We will need to improve in our striking force. Maciu Dunadamu and Kema Jack were playing too far, we need to get them close to the midfielders.

“We need to maintain the team bonding and discipline,” Levaci said. Nadroga assistant coach Waisea Tale complaint of the long hours of travelling and 90 minutes of football. He said it affected his team’s performance, especially the decision given by linesman to Ba’s first goal yesterday.

“It was a long boat ride and another four hours of bus ride from Nabouwalu to Labasa. Players played the full 90 minutes of football is just not good,” Tale said.

Nadi coach Kamal Swamy said ground condition was not up to standard. “The width of the ground is too small and dusty and we had a hectic travelling from Natovi to Nabouwalu and to Labasa.

“Our players did not have much rest and played the first game.”
Suva head coach Gurjit Singh said two wins against Navua and Lautoka was a must next week in order to book their spot in the semifinal.

Navua technical adviser Ramesh Chand was upset since most of his senior players weren’t able to play yesterday.

Their absence were felt by the junior players who fielded in their positions during their 1-3 loss to Lautoka.
