Isikeli Jeke Keli made a timely return for his hometown Lautoka and scored goals which mattered as the Sugar City defeated Navua 3-1 in its opening pool match of the 2012 Battle Of Giants at Subrail Park in Labasa today.

Keli returned home after representing Nadroga in the past two seasons and proved his worth to the Blues management as he scored a second half hatrick.

The match started on a slow pace but Navua brought the fans to their feet as they scored the opening goal of the match right on the stroke of halftime through stylish marksman Inia Boko.

The Sugar City boys did not panic and played the second spell with more urge and determination and managed to get three goals via Keli who featured in left midfield.

Lautoka boss Shalendra Prasad was happy with the result and said his players played with a lot of patience and confidence.

"I am happy with the win as it has set a platform for better results as we head home for the tournament proper next week," he said.

"Navua played well and gave us an early scare but I thank my players for their patience and Isikeli Jeke Keli surely proved his worth this afternoon by scoring three goals."

"We are in a tough pool and need to register wins in our remaining matches if we are to qualify and our preparations will continue as we go back and get ready to host the other 7 disricts in Lautoka."

Lautoka will take on Nadi in the feature match of Thursday at Churchill Park.
